Bryce McKenzie: Current Parliament Protest

Groundswell NZ is a volunteer group of farmers and rural professionals advocating for our Grass Roots farmers and rural communities.

Groundswell NZ's main focus continues to be on the unworkable regulations impacting the rural sector. Like increasing numbers of New Zealanders, farmers have felt badly maligned by this current government and its policies. Like the protestors in Wellington we also have been ignored by the Government and called denigrating names. We can empathize with their frustration.

Whether you agree or not with the people protesting on parliament grounds is not the debate anymore. What this government, that proclaimed it would govern for all New Zealanders, has done is turn its back on a good number of its people.

How hard can it be to at least front up and talk to the people assembled on parliament grounds?

The final straw for me, and what prompted me to go public, is the way government is treating these people - turning the sprinklers on them knowing there was a storm coming, and playing loud music at night so as to not let them sleep and make them feel miserable. No farmer would treat animals like that!

Although this protest has a different focus to Groundswell NZ, we support their right to be heard and cannot understand or agree with the Government's actions. What is becoming of our once united and proud country?

Bryce McKenzie is a west Otago farmer who, along with Laurie Paterson founded Groundswell New Zealand

Great article. But you ask this. " what is becoming of our once proud and united country". But

It's not about " what'becoming " of new Zealand. It's already become this.

It's become a deeply divided nation, ruled by a bunch of despotic tyrants that unashamedly use fear as a tool to create separatism. Anything resembling some imaginary disaster , based entirely on modeling from government shills, is automatically accepted as " the science ".

Whether it be covid, or climate change, it doesn't matter.

Any contrary opinion to the official narrative is dismissed, AND openly denigrated by the MSM,and the twitterific.

This statement from JA should horrify ANYONE.

" we are the one source of truth".

TVNZ's coverage of violence reminded me of a certain program we used to watch

TV3 is owned by NewsHub which is owned by CNN. At least that is my understanding. CNN has recently been purchased by John Malone (a Trump supporter). Malone expressed his preference that CNN has a more balanced reporting culture. Also, John Malone told CNBC (11/18/21) he’d like to see CNN “actually have journalists”—citing Fox News as an example of a channel with “some actual journalism.”

Very happy to see Rodney Hide supports the protest 100% and that Russell Coutts will join the rally and lend his name and weight to it. But we do need more big names such as these to stand up and throw their support behind these outstanding protesters who are at the coalface of fighting for our democracy. Where are John Key and Jim Boger for example ? Are they afraid to stand against their own clique of politicians like Luxon et al ? Where is Dame Sian Elias and Hugh Fletcher, her husband, Sir Peter Jackson etc ? Are they afraid they will ignored by their own set if they dare sully their hands in support of the protesters ?…
