Strategically the best result is for National to win votes from Labour and lose them to ACT. Can't really fault Luxon's tactics for that.

There's a feeling of deja vu with National, just about the same thumbs up bums, complacent, do nothing crowd as they were when they last lost, apparently with zero lessons learnt. Though it will be much worse, with our massive debt, continuing inflation, and a vastly heavier greenstone ornament around the nation's neck as we drag along our self-flagellation, climate change ball and chain.

Liz Gunns interview with disenchanted lifetime National voters says it all. A must watch really. After weeks of trying to get an interview with Luxon he virtually told them he was not interested in their problems and didn't need their votes. He also doesn't apparently need Muriel Newmans supporters votes, a mere 9% he says. So, is he counting on ex- Labour voters? I don't have a problem with National and am pretty confident they will win the next election, however I don't think much will change. Just a tinkering around the edges.

You said it in a nutshell. Never been a political animal until a couple of elections ago. This time I even joined ACT, gave them a donation and subscribed to their mailing list. I am sick of politicians, when asked a question, they drive around it like a pile of horse droppings on the road. David Seymour at least answers straight up even if it's not something that I agree with. I like his style.

It doesn't seem to matter what Chris Luxon does or says the Labour shrews and biased media are constantly on the lookout for anything he says, and if they can see anyway that they can twist it and use it as a weapon against him and the National party, they will - the Roe V Wade issue in the US being a classic example of the way they operate. I listened to Luxon talking to Mellissa this morning on the TV3 breakfast show, and was just about ready to throw something at the TV - she was just following the baying media wolves and asking questions where it seemed obvious to me she was trying to trap him into saying…

and neither should Luxon......we don't need a go softly, be polite approach, give them a serve back and get the narrative back onto the REAL issues of the day

Eggzakkery! You can even go to their FB page and there are people (presumably their supporters) telling him to grow some.

Supporters or those seeking to drive him into a corner so they can throw crap at him?

If we were weeks out from an election or even months then I would agree with you 100% but the election is a long way away and things may well change between now and then so why bother drawing lines in the sand or worse, setting them in concrete?
