In 50 years or so, maybe less, nuclear fusion generation, the method used by our sun and stars generally, will be a reality. Even if there was some undesirable impacts of AGW over time, it's nowhere near being catastrophic, contrary to what our politically motivated fear mongering Government would have us believe. The nation and the world would be so much better off, avoiding the huge negative impacts of higher energy costs, by putting all of the emissions reduction schemes to one side and generating energy from coal and gas until then.

Weasel words used to be and still is the way of politics for everyone else it is called fraud But when polys do it everyone claps In my view it is the main skill required to enter politics Not the preserve of left or right If anything the right are more skillful at it and tend to suck people in Until something like the virus comes along then I am afraid I will plump for the left, as have most of nz at present

All the hysteria about burning any thing to generate electricity is ridiculous. Electric cars are, effectively, powered by burning coal.

NZ electricity largely comes from hydro dams which are fully committed. Any additional requirement is covered by coal burning generators. EVs fit this category . This fact has been largely ignored by those pushing EVs on the basis that they produce no climate changing gases.

Until NZ builds more hydro dams or nuclear power plants, any EVs are basically coal burners, running on Indonesian coal.

At this time hydro is only fill in even though hydro is limited producing all the time if it ain't blowing hydro has to ramp up to fill the gap. our power requirements are controlled by wind wind can be controlled to some extent but it a balancing act.

A triumph of ideology over logic and sense. It's all about appearances with Ardern. Substance seems irrelevant.

The absolute Hypocrisy of the left is exposed with this importing of dirty coal the cost of transporting it to NZ and then burning it to provide necessary electricty when cleaner natural gas is available here in NZ all to save the planet. When will they learn and when will take a look at the cleanest option Nuclear

The led light bulbs you refer to are certainly a better option tho .Last for years and generate light not heat and use heaps less power .You do point up that almost anything humans manufacture has upsides and down sides If I have a gripe with present politics it is the paranoia about being safe It is carried to absolutely ridiculous lengths Thus frightening many off employing people for fear they will be sued out of existence
