However you completely overlook the "Working for families" benefit or/and the Accomodation supplementary benefit. In my experience I have yet to come across someone in genuine poverty that is either employed and/or drug and alcohol free. There are numerous welfare agencies and support networks out there but they are less than enthusiastic when they see the bulk of the cash going into stupid decisions. Lord knows how they'd treat ardern and her twits ......

What I fail to understand is when kids come to school without a lunch that there is no follow up to the parents to see if there is a problem. Sickness? Injury?

I am sure there are kids coming without lunches because mum or dad didn’t get out of bed, hungover, drugged etc.

Such patents need to have a visit from the welfare people. And action plans agreed, Added support provided when required.

it is wrong that this doesn’t happen

That was part of Bill English's plan. That's why it was succeeding, that's why ardern dumped it.

This is my area of expertise. I have after-school tuition centres, (In2learning) and over the years children that come regularly - even just 2 terms a year - end up being much more successful than would be expected when looking at their family. (If you define success as having a good, skilled, well-paying job.) That's about 13/14 hours per term extra of tailored tuition. It helps that we can tailor the tuition to the child, but we also expect a high standard.

Does that show their attention to children in State care too.

Several literalists here in the comments. This is, remember, a cartoon. A minimal distillation from which implications can be inferred. It isn’t the last or the only word. It relays an implicit transferable principle.
