i totally agree with the sentiments expressed in this and your earlier post.

the new zealand i arrived in some 42 years ago was a totally different place. the contrast between '80's and today is, well, quite remarkable. aside from the economic transformation that has taken place, new zealands' social environment has undergone more than just an adjustment.

views such as you express were, back in the '80's, the territory of an insignificant, conservative minority group and discussions as to the 'solution' were principally confined to the likes of sports-bars. after a few jugs, numerous cigarettes and heated arguments amongst themselves participants went home, kissed the wife and kids, went to sleep and woke the next day to return t…

I LOVE the cartoon ------ right on the button!!

Everything is pointing to Apartheid in REVERSE!!

I had quite a pointed discussion with a close Part Maori friend - His mother was almost full Maori and his Father was Scottish.

He said "the Maoris think the ruling should be Maori one side and "all the rest of New Zealanders the other" I said that is not a democracy. He said "This is because of the land that was stolen from the Maoris way back"

I said ---- They have been paid BILLIONS over the years for land supposedly taken and we are now all one people.

About time Maori stopped living in the past - accepted they have been paid…

Just picking up on your point that Māori have been paid BILLIONS over the years for land supposedly taken. As of August 2018 the total value of all finalised settlements was $2.24 billion. A lot of money, but to put it in perspective, the following year the government spent $14 billion on superannuation alone. The entire value of Treaty settlements over the previous quarter of a century would only cover superannuation payments for 2 months.

The Ngai Tahu iwi, in their settlement claim estimated economic losses from the Crown’s purchases were valued at more than $20 billion. They received a Crown settlement offer of $170 million and an apology.

To your concern that Māori should accept they have been paid…

It wouldn't be so bad if those that had all the say we're batting for the good of the nation rather than, often by public admission, predominantly to the advantage of their own race based team.
