LINDSAY MITCHELL: The Future of Welfare in an Ethnically Changing Population

Asians will make-up a third of New Zealand's population by 2048.

For those worried about one in eight working-age New Zealanders currently relying on a benefit, this is good news.

That's because Asians are heavily under-represented amongst beneficiaries.

While making up around 20 percent of the population they only account for 5 percent of people dependent on benefits.

The news gets even better. Of that 5 percent, two thirds are receiving an unemployment benefit. This is the benefit people rely on for the shortest period and current numbers will abate quickly when (if) unemployment falls. There are only 2,817 Asian single parents (June 2025) compared to 38,556 Maori.

Of course, 2048 is a generation away and Asian behaviours will undoubtedly change over the next couple of decades. How much is anyone's guess. I am not sufficiently familiar with various Asian cultures to make predictions.

But Asians - Indians in particular - are going to immerse themselves in the political life of New Zealand. In Lower Hutt we have an Indian female running for mayor and the evidence of Indian cultural and commercial activity is everywhere. I like the cut of her jib and she has my vote.

Can we expect that as Asian values become more prevalent, we will see less tolerance for people who make benefit dependency a lifelong habit?

I hope so.

Once again, as it always seems in New Zealand, the emphasis is on race, ethnicity and ancestry instead of culture, character and morality Divide by race.

Divide by gender,

Divide by religion and anything else divisive.

Divide, Conquer and RULE. Never mention the importance of a National Culture, religion, language MORALS and EITHICS that unite people and promote cooperation, civil order and prosperity. Poor New Zealand, Trapped in rumination about the past that cannot be changed. Divided in the present without the uniting influences of national identity, culture, values, moral and ethics. Lacking an inspi9ring vision for the future of the nation and all of its people. No wonder so many of our bright, young and ambitious young people leave for chances of a better…

I do not think I have been "called" at all. I just think I might be beginning to understand some of this mysterious spiritual stuff in my own way after many years of searching. "Sin" is derived from the archery term to have missed the mark. I have done plenty of that missing of marks but tried to learning what the marks are and how to not miss them so often. I relate this more to shooting targets with rifles.

The ultimate goal is to consistently place every shot in the same hole. The only way to achieve this almost impossible perfection is TO DO everything in exactly the same way every time. The marks seem to be Humility, Charity, Chastity, Temperance, Diligence, Patience…

It will be interesting to see how Asian values evolve when subjected to the entitlement mentality pervasive in New Zealand. Asians and particularly Chinese are big on self responsibility. Eg. If your kids can't get a job, start a business for them or make them do menial work. However Asian cultures are also much more corrupt ( Singapore is the exception). Also recent trends in China have seen the young spoilt and pampered to. Are the confusian values going to last or will the Kiwi mentality of " it's the the governments job to take care of me" and " it's the governments fault if I'm a failure" prevail? More importantly will the recent Asian arrivals even stay in…

Righto.

I'll give this to you all stairrod straight up.

I work in an industry that relies on punctuality, relies on people turning up on time, and I'll tell you this straight.

The majority of those who never turn up of a Monday, nor a Friday and always text some pathetic piss down your leg laughable excuse for not being able to come to work are young born and bred new Zealand people, and yes of course this can be taken as a gross generalization , but in this case? It isn't. Who does turn up , even when they're that bloody crook we tell them they should go home? It's the Asians or the Indians, who for some godforsaken…

Well said.

Don't ever turn around to me and say anything about these people stealing our jobs, because they do them,”

"Can we expect that as Asian values become more prevalent, we will see less tolerance for people who make benefit dependency a lifelong habit ?"

We should be seeing less or no tolerance of this behaviour NOW.

If only the people in charge now had this kind of ethical/moral principles, and the backbone to enforce them, rather than waiting for someone stronger to come along and do the job for them.

Do we want NZ to be taken over & run by Asians (especially feisty Indians) & Africans (luckily not many yet) like the woke gone mad UK?

No bloody way, the boat is full, we can't even look after our own. Foreigners are snapping up our houses, renting our flats, using hospitals, schools, Uni's & general infrastructure etc. which many have even never contributed to funding.

Ethinity based statistcis should be stopped, as they're mainly used to fund all manner of woke race based DEI & CRT hand out & rorts.

Pacific Islanders are now being singled out for special treatment, support & hands outs. For goodness sake, most of them came here in the 50's & 60's,…
