RODNEY HIDE interviews JONATHAN AYLING

Rodney Hide talks to Jonathan Ayling from the Free Speech Union about Kate Hannah's Disinformation Project, the Susie Fergusson RNZ podcasts in support, hate speech legislation and the fall-out from the Posie Parker protest including the police conduct review. He also discusses what he expects when Posie Parker returns in September. If you've never had the opportunity to do so, listen to Jonathan Ayling who grew up in Southern Africa and has seen at close quarters how the suppression of free speech can manifest.

Thanks Rodney.

This is a one-way street unless we appeal to the higher power. Either we have a higher standard, or it's mob rule. NZ was built on the rule of law inherited from the UK, who built it firmly on the objective and timeless standard of God's Word. While there are some (he and in the US, at least) who would like to see the Bible used as a code of conduct, it isn't that, and hasn't been that since the resurrection of Jesus Christ - except by those misguided souls who think they can climb a ladder to heaven. None will make it on that basis, and the Word reveals the the reason Christ came, lived and d…

So the protestors standing outside being as loud as possible with drums, chanting, "singing", spitting, breaking windows, punching people and pouring flour on them etc are mainly retirees then also and why does that matter what age they are? The meetings are private following advice given by police.

I listened from start to finish, and thank you Rodney and Johnathan, it was excellent listening.

But my point has always been so.

Why, oh why do we let these cretinous morons into our heads? I will not be dictated to, told what to say,or to think on the taxpayer funded warbling of a person that has no real life experience, and has no fucking perceived moral high ground over the rest of us,

No. No more.

You stand up and fight like hell for your beliefs.

And I've said this so many times.

So start practicing it.

We push back, 💪 and hard.

Not with violence,,but the best tool available.

Ignore them.

Laugh at them. Ridicule them, easily done…

This is an interesting discussion. I am, like Rodney, a supporter of the Free Speech Union and quite happy to sign their petitions. When it comes to those protesters that disrupt meetings and make it impossible for people to hear the speaker at these same meetings I don't really agree these protestors should be given the same consideration as Jonathan is inferring, just because of free speech. Unless their protest is silent and peaceful.

We don't really have silent protests anymore. As with the Albert Park debacle, we now have professional troublemakers loudly and violently going out of their way to disrupt proceedings. Innocent people are being injured. They always seem to be the more vulnerable like the 70 year…

Yes! I agree with you there too, that knowing "What is a women" has never before been seen as "controversial" like Jonathan says it is now... I admire his endeavoring to be very objective though. Big "ups" for that. Albert Park came as a huge turning point for many of us, especially NZ women. I was shocked watching the videos from the Park and then hearing the biassed comments from Hipkins & co, paired with the media's outright lies. It is clear to see for anyone with eyes what a slippery slope we are sliding down right now. Full censorship across all media is next...
