RODNEY HIDE: Rejecting the Trump-Hitler Analogy

Rodney Hide examines the dangers of comparing political figures like Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler, arguing that such analogies are historically dishonest and trivialise the real atrocities of the Nazi regime. He points out how this rhetoric, often pushed by media and political leaders, fueled division and even encouraged violence by framing Trump as a threat akin to Hitler. Drawing from his own anger during the COVID-19 era, Rodney acknowledges the deep wrongs of mandates, censorship, and institutional coercion, which he labels as evil—but emphasises that these should be called out for what they are, not compared to past horrors. He concludes by committing to more careful, specific language when confronting injustice, rejecting lazy analogies in favour of truth.

I think comparing anyone to Hitler nowadays is pointless, as the analogy is such a banal and commonplace comparison. Lots of people refer to politicians they don't like as Hitlers. Ditto ponderous discussions of minor policy matters as recalling 1930s Germany (AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT LED TO, DON'T WE, DRUMROLL). and dreary swipes at all and sundry as fascists. That said, I'm dismayed and worried about a lot of what Trump has been up to, but were I discussing it, I'd do that minus autopilot allusions to others.
Rodney has made some very good points as did Michael Bassett in his opinion piece.
Rodney has also emphasized the need for people to politely debate issues and opinions. Contrary to this approach, there's a lot of really nasty comments on this page.
Nastiness seems to be a point in common between the extreme left and extreme right. Another point in common seems to be their admiration for dictators.
One of these men is 6' 2", both by claim and measure. The other lies about his height continually, claiming to be 6'3". How pathetic is that? Trump's self delusion is just one sign of a narcissist. He wears lifter shoes but even then can't make 6'1". In reality he's barely 6 foot tall. (Apologies for the imperial measures but the US doesn't understand metric units)

The Trump-Hitler analogy is not the result of cultured individuals performing an actual comparison.
It is funded scumbags trying to smear Trump, because of the good he has done. Trump is not perfect but the alternative was 100x worse.
We cannot fathom the logic of how such people arrived at a comparison of Trump and Hitler. There was no logic. IT was simply those who were profiting out of the chaos that gave the order to smear and get rid of Trump at all costs. Lies are just part of the MO of such people. They have no conscience.
Those people who compared Dame Jacinda Adern to Hitler really should go and watch the documentary Prime Minister, which is an intimate and empathetic portrait of her leadership and personal challenges, particularly her experiences with sexism and vitriol.
Of course there will be some who are bitter and twisted about her success in reducing the Covid death count to one of the lowest in the world and her recognition on the world stage.
