Michael Bassett recently wrote a column about the government's Three Waters proposal and latterly wanted this video linked to it. To avoid it being missed in the passage of time, it has been posted as a stand-alone item.
Michael Basset are are seriously quoting facts from Bruce Smith, then that really does cast doubt on any of your opinions..
Did you even bother to, as Bruce says Check your facts folks.. If you had you would find he completely misrepresented the facts.. Go and look at his councils own Q&A section on the 3 waters..
If the 3 waters plan is so flawed why does Smith need to lie about the numbers.. The example he uses to show that ratepayers costs for water will increase threefold.. is BS
He conveniently uses only the water rate charge.. $527. and leaves out the charges for Waste water ($410) and stormwater ($275) t in total $1,213 He then quotes the governments…
Bruce Smith made no mention as to whether or not the democratically-elected Government Opposition was fully consulted on this. He did however mention the most important major stakeholders in this business - New Zealand Ratepayers and laid out commercial, social, racial and historical reasons for extensve due diligence. In my view this is simply another tactic in the Labour Government's primary strategy of rushing through radical legislation to avoid proper democratic process, They are attempting to rush through Legislation that will bind all future both National and Labour Governments while they have an outright majority in Parliament. This is an exact replica of the strategy employed by PM Tony Blair following the 1997 UK General Election, and well learned b…
I have a feeling this was dreamt up to ‘water down’ (excuse the pun) their stated aim to control 100%. The rational for 100% is that it’s a ‘treasure’. Well nothing could be further from the truth - if you read the journals you’ll see water was abundant and if anything a scourge, how to keep dry and cross rivers etc. It’s only through the prism of today do we regard it as a treasure.
Anyway as a Kiwi living in Oz I am appalled at what’s going on in NZ these days
Unlike Australia we dont as yet have tradeable water rites .A system which your adopted country has and one which has proved to be a disaster WE have survived an attempt by National when in government to adopt a similiar system On the surface it looks like a good idea it works like this they said A land owner identifies a segment of his water rite he doesnt need and sells it to his neighbor So far so good then things start to go wrong .Because in order to sell something you have to own it ,Still ok ,Well not quite if you own it you can sell it to someone else .Still ok you say SORRY the person wh…
Here in Tararua, residents are being soft soaped by a Mayor and Council who present both sides of the arguments, but in my opinion favour 3 Rivers. Escalating costs to ratepayers are highlighted as a reason to NOT go it alone. It has been suggested that because of an increase in drought conditions and our districts reliance on river water and the costs involved in suppling farming and household needs, government is best placed to handle the logistics of that.
In Pahiatua last year after more than 20 years of promises, work was finally completed on a water system which they claimed would end muddy aqua and worms ending up in our kitchen sinks.
Bruce , you make far too much sense . I agree with you whole heartedly and support your views . Hopefully this will go to a national referendum . Thank you for bringing this too our attention , non biased ,clear points and views .
