From what I can gather, today, honouring the treaty means that whatever is wrong with any one Maori(s) life today is a problem for non Maori, and if dealt with successfully today, then certainly, a different problem would emerge tomorrow.
Its like hand-painting the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Its unceasing.
I just turned on TV on this morning in readiness to watch the cricket, but in was on channel one instead of six.
There was jerk tame talking to a young woman. Don't know who she was, but she certainly was claiming to be maori. I would guess at least nine times removed.
She was going on about the proposed Treaty Principles Bill. The number of times she used the words "our people, the incorrect word for NEW ZEALAND," saying that any bill would be problematic, and that it was only one party's bill, not the wishes of most.
And by the way, she quoted from the re-translated version of the treaty, instead of the maori translation of the Littlewood…
I worked along side lawyers for many years Some great Others appalling and incompetent.
Like the Curate's egg etc . I know some marvelous ones and some stinkers. One of my part Maori nieces ( a New Zealander ) is a very good one. who has done very well by being blunt and honest. My nephew studied law and changed to Public Health Saying " Lawyers are simply paid to lie" I won't argue with that. .
When this day was given public holiday status in 1973, Norman Kirk named it New Zealand Day. The image of him walking, hand-in-hand, with a Maori boy became iconic. It symbolised intergenerational unity. It's a pity that Muldoon's lot reverted to the Waitangi moniker and the division that it perpetuated.
Don't hold your breath expecting real action from Cuddle's pussies. Just look to the action when the face-painted goon blockaded the fishing competition. On public roads.
Some years ago the New Zealand Police Force was rebranded a Service. Sure, it provides a service to the public, but its primary function is to enforce just laws and bring to account those who abuse them. At the behest of Enid Clubf…
Spot on. I'm from a family of soldiers and law enforcement officers. The old " tough but fair" approach is long gone. Years ago , I recall a Police Commander state that he favoured big , tough , officers who commanded respect. Recently, there was an altercation in our neighbourhood.
The sole Police Officer that finally rolled up was a five foot nothing female with a North American accent who was totally out of her depths. As useful as a chocolate tea pot.
Many years ago one of my Police Officer cousins got into a scrape. I'm a big feller but he was even bigger. A uniformed officer , on the beat. He was attacked , in broad daylight …
