Bear in mind the suitability of a List MP to represent any particular party is determined by the Party itself.

Whether you consider the Greens as being capable of selecting a suitable representative is certainly up for question.

Such is the system of MMP, whereby the geographical electorate does not get to judge the quality of whom is to become a spokesperson or a representative on behalf of their vote. The said electorate also have no way of influencing the composition of a party list.

48 out of our 120 MPs are elected internally.

Well over a third...... Fair ?

Just listened to Sean Plunket and Chris Trotter on the subject of List MP Golriz Ghahramans resignation.

Not a word…

You are quite correct with your analysis. I listened to the interview you refer and was bemused by Chris Trotters caution regarding the lady. We should consider her frame of mind at the time of her offending and not be too harsh in criticising her. Just her or every persons that commits an offence?

It may be of some value to have candidates for Parliament declare any mental condition, past and present, as they are required to do with assets. Perhaps an annual psych evaluation would be a good investment for the electorate.

I once thought this quote from Ambrose Bierce (The Devils Dictionary) summed up the system of politics.

But it is no longer the situation, it is now obvious even 'Principles' are no longer contested in the masquerade. that has now become everyday Political Bullshit

Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s. (Mark 12:17). The lady has offered the explanation but the debt, until payed remains. Resignation is not payment as it’s self inflicted. The debt is owed to those she chose to rob and the State that requires retribution. She is as accountable as the next person for her choices. Her previous position and responsibilities are null and void.. we are all equal under the Law.

Exactly. All equal under the law, but how many other accused shop lifters do you see on the front page of the papers?

Golriz Ghahraman Festive Season Saga

“My recent behaviour is consistent with recent events giving rise to extreme stress response, and relating to previously unrecognised trauma,” she said.

Huh? This reads like a fairy tale dreamed up by the NZ Woke Brigade to get affected parties off the hook. “Be kind”.

“With that in mind, I don’t want to hide behind my mental health problems, and I take full responsibility for my actions which I deeply regret”.

Talk is cheap -

Ms Ghahraman thanked Scotties Boutique “for the kindness and empathy” it had shown her during this time.

Is the public expected to believe her explanation? If so, it is an insult to their intelligence. Why do politicians continue to assume…
